About us:
The Bread Factory is the UK's leading artisan bakery. Founded by Gail Meija in 1993, The Bread Factory, originally known as Gail Force, began by supplying some of London's most prestigious restaurants, including many with Michelin stars. More than three decades later, we continue to work closely with the best chefs, alongside grocers, foodservice partners and our own neighbourhood bakery, GAIL's.
The Bread Factory is synonymous with quality. We have been awarded more than 100 Great Taste Awards and have held a Royal Warrant since 2016, when it was first granted by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. In 2024, the warrant was renewed by His Majesty The King.
We source our ingredients thoughtfully, partnering with farmers and millers who align with our values. The result: delicious, carefully made baked goods that support a more sustainable and nutritious food system; bringing great bread to more tables every day.
As the Hygiene Shift Leader, you will lead and supervise the Hygiene Team to ensure all areas of the bakery meet hygiene and safety standards. You will ensure that cleaning processes are followed meticulously and that the team operates efficiently to meet food safety requirements.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Lead health and safety activity across two food manufacturing sites in Milton Keynes, both located within the same industrial estate.
- Provide practical advice to managers, employees and contractors on UK health and safety legislation, company policies and safe working practices.
- Carry out workplace inspections, audits and risk assessments, identify hazards and support operational teams in implementing effective control measures.
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identify root causes, produce clear reports and ensure corrective actions are completed.
- Maintain and continuously improve the health and safety management system, policies, procedures and site standards.
- Deliver health and safety training, toolbox talks, inductions and awareness campaigns to strengthen employee engagement and safety culture.
- Monitor performance data, prepare management reports, support emergency planning and ensure both sites remain compliant with legal and organisational requirements.
About You:
You are a knowledgeable and approachable health and safety professional who can balance legal compliance with the practical needs of a fast paced food manufacturing environment.
- Hold a NEBOSH General Certificate, or an equivalent recognised health and safety qualification, with IOSH membership at Technical, Certified or equivalent level.
- Have previous experience in a health and safety advisory role, ideally within food manufacturing, manufacturing, logistics or another higher risk environment.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, regulatory requirements and recognised best practice.
- Bring practical experience of workplace inspections, audits, risk assessments, incident investigations and the management of corrective actions.
- Communicate confidently and build effective relationships with site leadership, employees, contractors and external stakeholders.
- Be confident delivering training, toolbox talks and awareness sessions, while constructively challenging unsafe practices and recommending practical solutions.
- Be organised, analytical and able to work independently across two sites, managing competing priorities, analysing performance data and producing clear reports.
A NEBOSH Diploma, ISO 45001 auditing experience, contractor safety experience or a relevant wellbeing qualification would be advantageous.
